The founders

Two Australians. Met on RuneScape. Built a $5.6 billion empire without raising outside money.

Ed Craven, co-founder of Stake.com and Easygo, photographed by Forbes

Ed Craven

Co-founder · CEO Easygo

Born 1995, Melbourne, Australia. The public face. Craven claimed he won $6,000 playing on a family cruise at twelve years old - gambling statistics became his fixation from there. He attended Bishop Druitt College in Coffs Harbour and was early into coding and crypto. As a teenager he led the largest RuneScape dicing clan under the alias "Apple" - that's where he met Tehrani, and where the name "Stake" eventually came from. Until the end of 2021 he went publicly only by the alias "Edd Miroslav," deliberately keeping his real identity off the internet. His combined net worth with Tehrani was pegged at US$5.6 billion by Forbes Australia in October 2024. The AFR's 2025 Rich List put Craven alone at A$4.82 billion. In 2022 he bought a 7,187 sq ft derelict mansion in Toorak, Melbourne for A$80 million - the most expensive residential purchase in that suburb's history.

Bijan Tehrani, co-founder of Stake.com, photographed by Forbes

Bijan Tehrani

Co-founder · Kick co-owner

Born in the United States to Iranian parents, later relocated to Melbourne where he's been based since. The quieter partner. Operations, corporate structure, the machinery behind the house. Tehrani co-owns Kick - the streaming platform is 50% Ashwood Holdings, 50% Bijan Tehrani personally. His Forbes net worth as of May 2025: $2.8 billion. In late 2023 he purchased a $47 million mansion in New York - a country where Stake.com is explicitly banned from operating.

The name "Stake" is a direct homage to their RuneScape origin - the game had a staking mechanic where players could wager items in duels. Craven and Tehrani met as teenagers through the dicing community, started building Bitcoin gambling tools together, and never really stopped.

The origin

Before Stake there was Primedice. Before Primedice there was RuneScape. This is the full thread.

In May 2013, Craven and Tehrani launched Primedice - a Bitcoin dice site that popularised the provably fair cryptographic verification system now standard across the entire crypto gambling industry. It wasn't the first Bitcoin dice site, but it was the first to run fully off-chain with instant, fee-free bets and an open-source fairness proof any player could verify. That concept of transparent, verifiable randomness became Stake's philosophical backbone.

Primedice ran for 13 years before announcing its closure on October 8, 2026 - its player base directed to migrate to Stake.com. The Primedice dice game lives on inside Stake Originals as "Prime Dice."

By spring 2016, Craven and Tehrani had opened a Melbourne office and incorporated Easygo Solutions with 18 employees, building proprietary casino technology. Stake.com launched in 2017, operated under Medium Rare N.V. in Curaçao, and targeted the crypto-native gambling audience that Primedice had proven existed. Growth was initially slow and streamer-driven - but COVID-era Twitch streaming deals turned a known brand into a phenomenon. Stake grew from $100 million to $2 billion in revenue in under two years.

Sponsorships & partnerships

No gambling company on earth has bought this much cultural real estate.

Drake

Signed 2022 at a reported $100M per year, later renegotiated by some accounts to $180M. Drake live-streamed gambling sessions on Stake multiple times. As of June 2026 the relationship appears active - Stake's official X bio reads "@Drake approved." Bloomberg Businessweek's 2026 investigation found Drake hit jackpots on Easygo-owned slots at 4x the average player rate - a claim Stake hasn't publicly addressed.

Trainwreckstv

One of Stake's longest-running streaming personalities. Claims $360M paid over 16 months - by his own admission on stream. In July 2025 he recorded the largest online slot win in history: $37.5 million on Hex Appeal (developed exclusively for Stake by Massive Studios), at $6,000 per spin, hitting the 50,000x maximum multiplier. He'd disclosed losing $19.5M across five prior sessions in the same stretch.

Everton FC

Announced June 2022, effective July 1, 2022. Valued at £10M per year - the highest front-of-shirt deal in Everton's 144-year history. Multi-year term. Following Stake's UK exit in March 2025, the UKGC wrote to Everton noting risks of promoting an unlicensed site and seeking due diligence assurances.

Watford FC

Announced July 22, 2021 - Stake became Watford's principal shirt sponsor for their 2021/22 Premier League return. Described as a club-record deal, reportedly paid in part via cryptocurrency (a Dogecoin giveaway launched alongside). Watford were relegated that season.

Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber

Stake joined Sauber as co-title partner in 2023. For the 2024 season Stake became sole title partner - the team raced as "Stake F1 Team KICK Sauber" for 2024 and 2025. Kick separately named on the chassis (KICK Sauber C44). The team rebranded as Audi from 2026 following Audi's acquisition of Sauber Motorsport.

UFC

January 2021: Israel Adesanya signed as first global brand ambassador - Stake's first crypto partnership in MMA. February 2022: expanded to official betting partner for Latin America and Asia. February 2024: elevated to Official Partner at the Premium Global Partners tier. Additional UFC athletes: Francis Ngannou, Alex Pereira, Merab Dvalishvili, Alexandre Pantoja, Caio Borralho.

Sergio Agüero

Signed February 1, 2022. Stake filmed a FIFA World Cup 2022 commercial featuring Agüero, Eden Hazard, Iker Casillas, and Patrice Evra. Agüero won the 2021 Copa America with Argentina - a connection that fed into Stake's 2026 Buenos Aires province launch.

Davis Cup, LatAm football

Stake is listed as a Davis Cup tennis partner. Football shirt deals across the Americas: FBC Melgar (Peru), Fortaleza CEIF (Colombia), Enyimba (Nigeria), Esporte Clube Juventude (Brazil), Ñublense (Chile). The LatAm presence is tied to Stake's official licensed expansions in Brazil and Argentina.

The $41M hack

September 2023. North Korean state actors. Stake's response.

On September 4, 2023, approximately $41 million in cryptocurrency was drained from Stake's hot wallets. The breakdown: roughly $16M from Ethereum accounts (ETH, USDT, USDC, DAI) and $25.6M from Binance Smart Chain and Polygon (MATIC, BNB).

The attack did not involve direct private key compromise. Instead, it targeted a third-party transaction authorization service Stake used for Ethereum, Polygon, and BNB Chain operations - allowing unauthorized outbound transfers without actually holding the keys. Ed Craven stated the breach was spotted within 20 minutes and fully resolved in under 4 hours. Deposits and withdrawals were suspended temporarily and resumed the same day.

On September 7, 2023, the FBI formally attributed the hack to North Korea's Lazarus Group - the same DPRK state-sponsored unit behind the $600M Ronin Bridge attack, the $35M Atomic Wallet attack, and dozens of other 2023 crypto thefts. The stolen funds moved through a characteristic laundering chain: ETH and BSC assets swapped into unfreezable native assets, then through Squid Router, Avalanche Bridge, wrapped BTC, native Bitcoin, and eventually through the Sinbad mixer.

Craven's public statement: "The loss of funds is by no means a trivial amount, but this attack has not materially affected Stake's operations." User funds were not affected. Post-hack, Arkham-tracked reserves remained in the $300M+ range. The practical demonstration that withdrawals never stopped served as Stake's de-facto proof of solvency.

Stake Engine

Launched April 2025. Stake is now also a platform, not just a casino.

In April 2025, Stake launched Stake Engine - a next-generation Remote Gaming Server (RGS) that allows any developer, from indie studios to large game houses, to build, deploy, and earn from games hosted on Stake's platform. Revenue model: 10% GGR paid monthly to developers, described by Stake as "the most developer-friendly commercial model in iGaming." Over 4,000 developers signed up within three weeks of launch. Three Stake Engine titles ranked in Stake's top 50 games by bets before the platform even officially launched: Massive Studio's Jawsome (#17), Serpentina (#23), and Twist's Samurai Dogs Unleashed (#25). The Hex Appeal slot - site of Trainwreckstv's $37.5M record win - was a Massive Studios exclusive developed for Stake prior to the Engine's formal launch.

The Engine announcement cited the technology as "backed by 300 billion bets" - a reference to Stake's cumulative processing history since 2017.
